Smart Lighting

Urban lighting – Smart lighting – Energy efficiency

Context

In response to rising energy costs and climate challenges, the City of Strasbourg has implemented an ambitious policy to reduce and modernize its public lighting. Targeted nighttime switch-offs, biodiversity preservation, restoration of the starry sky and improved energy performance are central to this strategy. While the approach earned Strasbourg the “Villes et villages étoilés” label, it also highlighted strong user expectations regarding safety, mobility and nighttime comfort.

Our approach

To support this transformation, the City relies on solutions from ECLATEC, for public lighting , NEXIODE , for smart lighting systems, and Kuzzle, whose open-source and sovereign IoT platform provides real-time supervision, remote management and hypervision of the entire connected network. The installed equipment enables fine-tuned and scalable management of urban lighting: deployment of LED luminaires, scheduled programming, presence detectors and remote management. This usage-centered approach makes it possible to adjust lighting neighborhood by neighborhood, reconciling energy efficiency, quality of use and safety, while offering residents lighting that is smarter, clearer and better suited to the city's nocturnal rhythms.
