Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen

Architectural lighting – Public spaces – Nighttime lighting
Rotterdam

Context

Located in the heart of Rotterdam, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is an iconic cultural landmark, instantly recognisable for its mirrored architecture and its integration within a public urban park. This hybrid place—museum, promenade and meeting space—welcomes residents and visitors every day. The challenge is to support nighttime uses while enhancing the building’s spectacular architecture and the surrounding landscape, ensuring visual comfort, safety and clear pedestrian routes.

Our approach

The site lighting relies on lighting poles fitted with ECLATEC’s XEON RGBW projectors, visible along pathways and open spaces around the building. Light structures movement, secures circulation and enhances the reflections of the mirrored façade while respecting the surrounding landscape. Carefully controlled lighting atmospheres support both cultural and everyday uses, transforming the public space into an immersive experience where architecture, nature and light interact. A night-time scenography designed for users and for the iconic identity of the site.
